A few weeks ago, there were multiple conflicting reports on Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Now, it seems that Warner Bros. and Reeves have officially chosen their Dark Knight. According to Deadline, WB has officially approved Twilight star Robert Pattinson to be the main lead in The Batman and that “negotiations will get underway any moment”.
Those at WB were reportedly “torn” between Pattinson and X-Men: First Class star Nicholas Hoult but eventually, the studio made the decision to go with Pattinson.
Yesterday, The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez tweeted out that both actors were undergoing test screenings for the role.
BATMAN UPDATE: Robert Pattinson & Nicholas Hoult are screen testing for the role. I suspect they're screen testing in the Batsuit because Wardrobe Department will need full wardrobe test. Additionally, the film will now start production in Q1 2020.🦇 pic.twitter.com/eekafrqomL

While this whole process has been just as confusing as any Death Stranding trailer, it might have been for the best. This is a huge decision for WB as this actor will be the face of your DC franchise for years to come. Going through a daunting selection process ensured that they got who they believed was the right actor for the part.
One other piece of news to come out of the Deadline report is that Pattinson will be on board for a trilogy of Batman films. With the rigorous casting rumors we’ve heard over the past few weeks, this was never going to be a one-off movie for whoever ended up under the cowl. Only time will tell if Robert Pattinson will be able to pull off the iconic role but the internet will surely debate it over the next few months anyway.
The Batman is currently set to release sometime in Summer 2021. Both The Penguin and Catwoman are rumored to be the film’s main antagonists.
What are your thoughts on this casting? Have seen you seen Pattinson in anything outside of Twilight? How do you think he’ll translate to the Dark Knight? Let us know in the comments below!
