Have you been playing Rocket League? If no, you should start. The new title from Psyonix mixes soccer and jet-powered cars to dangerously addictive effect. It’s a game that has to be played to really be believed, and people have been playing. So many people have been playing that the game is experiencing server issues left and right. This probably has something to do with the mass influx of players that downloaded the game for free via Playstation Plus.
Many players have been unable to play online and Psyonix feels bad about that. That’s why they’re giving away free DLC as an apology. Only one item of DLC has been confirmed so far, Skull Wheels. Currently Rocket League is undergoing a couple of behind the scenes updates that are supposed to fix many of the server issues. It’s interesting to note that public vitriol has been rather calm (unlike last year’s Driveclub fiasco). Despite server issues many gamers are able to play online (myself included).
Perhaps AAA companies should take a page from Psyonix’s book and get ahead 0f the curve when it comes to a games public image. Bungie is still reeling from its infamous Eurogamer interview and Ubisoft is on its way to becoming the next EA.
So let’s talk about skull wheels. It’s rumored that this isn’t the only item that is being given away, but it’s the only one we know of so far. For those not yet indoctrinated in the cult of Rocket League, the cars used have over 100 customizable options that can be unlocked. These can range from new bodies to silly hats. The last thing you want is to look like a fool on the field.
Rocket League is currently available for PS4 and PC. It retails at $19.99, but if you have Playstation Plus you can download it this month for free.
