Rockstar Games is apparently working on a brand new, unannounced virtual reality project.
The news comes not from the company itself but from one of its partners. Video Games Deluxe posted a job opening on its LinkedIn profile last week, but that listing is now getting the attention it so richly deserves.
Having finished the critically well received L.A.Noire: The V.R. Case Files we are now gearing up for a new project, a AAA open world title in VR for Rockstar. 2020 marks our 7th year of working exclusively for Rockstar in Sydney and we are excited to taking [SIC] on this ground breaking project.”
Video Games Deluxe is also the studio that worked with Rockstar to bring L.A. Noire to current generation consoles such as the Nintendo Switch.
The posting went on to say they are hiring Senior Programmers, Engine Programmer, Designer and Animator, as well as other positions. Unsurprisingly, they were not willing or able to go into great detail about what game is being worked on.
The big question now is whether or not this is for a brand new title, or if one of Rockstar’s existing IPs is getting the virtual reality treatment. It stands to reason we’re going to be seeing a GTA V or Red Dead Redemption II in VR in the near future.
There doesn’t appear to be the time to build a AAA open-world game that no one has ever heard of before. Of course, there was nothing in the job listing that said this project was going to be completed anytime soon.
Same Old, Same Old For Rockstar?
It’s been quite a while since Rockstar has made anything totally new. Earlier this summer, the company announced GTA V is coming to the PS5. The announcement was met with mixed reaction, as some were hoping to see a brand new title unveiled for the upcoming consoles.
