September is almost here and it will have been two months since the E3 Nintendo Direct. So can we expect a direct in the next couple of weeks? Usually, there is a September direct and we’ve just had an indie presentation (Nintendo usually follows this soon after with a full direct). So, what can we expect in terms of content? Well, back in 2014, Nintendo used the September direct to announce Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D and there have been plenty of other big games announced at this time of year.
Nintendo has a lot going on in September. The release of both the Switch Lite and the remake of Link’s Awakening are coming in the middle of the month. Plus, it’s the Switch Online Service’s one year anniversary. People are expecting SNES games to be announced for the service and if there is nothing added to the service Nintendo will get a lot of criticism. A direct might be a good way to convey to audiences what coming up for the service, but maybe just a press release could do the job?
New Games?
If I had to put money on it, I would say that there will be a direct in the next 3 weeks. What games to expect? Well, probably some updates on games we already know about such as Luigi’s Mansion 3 but also some surprises since we don’t have a December game for the Switch yet. I’m hoping for a Zelda collection but with the imminent release of Link’s Awakening, It’s unlikely. Metroid Prime Trilogy is also a possibility or a AAA third party game.
Overall, a new Nintendo direct is highly likely. Who knows we might even get an update on the Breath of the Wild Sequel or Metroid Prime 4. What are your thoughts? Do you think a Nintendo direct is imminent? Post your thoughts in the comments.
