Anthony and Joe Russo are responsible for some of the biggest movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And their upcoming Avengers: Endgame will be the resolution of the current phase of the MCU. Having been creating superhero blockbusters non-stop since 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it’s understandable that after this they will be taking a break. But that doesn’t mean they won’t be back, and in a recent interview at CinemaCon, Joe Russo made it clear what storyline he would want to return for.
“I keep saying Secret Wars because that was one of the first books that I really fell in love with as a kid. This notion of, you know, event storytelling, and I think that’s part of the reason that we gravitate so strongly towards these event films and these ensemble films is the notion that you can contain so many different characters and so many different points of view and galvanize them around a story point is really compelling to us.” – Joe Russo
This would definitely be exciting as Secret Wars is regarded by many as one of the greatest comic book storylines in history. But as to whether or not it would actually happen, Joe went on to say the following.
“I don’t know, I think Kevin (Feige) always has a plan in his head, but he’s always ready to throw out the plan and adjust the plan because you never know how the movies are going to turn out. You want to make sure each movie in front of you is a good movie. And if you’re thinking about the movie past it, then you’re not focusing all of your energy on the movie that’s in front of you.” – Joe Russo
If it did happen one can imagine it would be a long way away. In the meantime, you can currently catch Captain Marvel which is still in theaters. And Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home will be coming out later this Summer.
