Salma Hayek received both praise and criticism as she chose a sparkly dress for a high-profile event in 2021. Attending the premiere of The Eternals movie she stars in that September, the 57-year-old actress wowed in a deep red gown, going jazzy in tons of glitter and also making her night a family one.
Taking a long then-14-year-old daughter for her big night, Salma dolled herself up in a floor-length gown and heels, but some reacting to The Daily Mail‘s photos felt that she’d made a poor style choice. Alongside being told to get a proper stylist, Salma had users saying that her dress wasn’t “flattering,” and it wasn’t just the odd fan.
Salma Hayek’s Style Criticized With Glitter Dress Display
Posing for red carpet photos as she highlighted her curvy figure, Salma covered up a little more than usual, but she made up for it in glitter.
Dazzling in a long-sleeved, sequin-covered dress in red and black, the MCU star went figure-hugging up top, highlighting hints of her famous curves as she flaunted her trim waist. Flashing some skin via a one-shouldered finish, Salma added a segmented band around one of her bare shoulders, placing her hands on her hips in some snaps as she sent out a confident energy.
The House of Gucci star sported her dark locks down for her London soiree, also wearing plenty of matte makeup and a rosy lip.
Getting Told It’s ‘Not Flattering At All’
Fans quickly commented. Leading the way with over 200 upvotes was a user saying: “Beautiful red color but unflattering dress style for her body type.” Agreeing, another said that Hayek looked “frumpy” as they called her dress “ill-fitting.”
“She’s a beautiful beautiful woman. But she needs a better stylist. Never seems to get it right lol,” another said. Over 100 fans, meanwhile, agreed when a user wrote: “That dress isn’t flattering at all.”
Salma rarely gets it wrong and is often praised for her style choices on Instagram. Unsurprisingly, it’s usually a high-end affair, and with husband François-Henri Pinault’s Kering brand owning labels including Balenciaga and Gucci, Salma likely gets to wear the expensive items for free.
Salma has, however, faced backlash for regularly wearing Balenciaga, also owned by Kering. The brand continues to face criticism following its 2022 scandal, one seeing an ad with children holding teddy bears dressed in bondage clothing.
Also giving Salma’s glitter dress the thumbs-down was a fan saying: “Unfortunately the outfit makes her look stumpy and like she has no neck. Shame as she’s very pretty.”
