With the job market being as rough as it is, getting rejected after a job interview isn’t exactly rare. But one San Antonio job seeker had especially bad luck when they ran into a surprisingly rude employer. A Redditor named 13RU40 recently shared the experience of their friend, who had applied for a job at a movie theater located at The Rim in Texas. Everything seemed to be going fine until the rejection email arrived. It wasn’t just that the theater turned them down. It was the way they phrased it that really stood out for all the wrong reasons.

[REPOST] Real rejection email my friend has received

The email started off polite and professional, with the sender expressing regret over rejecting the San Antonio job seeker. However, the summary from the hiring team left a lot to be desired. Here’s what they wrote:

“We decided this individual is extremely inexperienced. We believe that a lack of experience, paired with this person’s choice of major, breeds a lazy individual.”

Wow—many would think the worst a company could say is just “no.” But this biting response was a tough pill to swallow. The Redditor who shared the story didn’t hold back, venting their frustration on behalf of their friend. They called the rejection “unprofessional and immature” and questioned why the applicant’s college major even mattered, especially since the Texas theater also hires high school students for the same position.

“Literally the job tasks includes being in the snack bar and occasionally cleaning toilets, what university degree do you need to pursue for this underpaying position? This email overall is just so disgusting, do better,” 13RU40 wrote.

Other Reddit users who came across the post were quick to agree, saying the San Antonio theater had definitely crossed a line. “A simple no would have sufficed,” one user commented.

Several people began pressing the original poster for the name of the theater that had sent such an unprofessional email. User 13RU40 explained that they had shared the name in a previous post, but it was quickly taken down by the moderators. All they felt comfortable revealing was that the theater is located at The Rim. Some users began speculating that it might be Santikos.

Others pointed out that the friend may have actually lucked out by not getting the job, suggesting they had dodged a bullet. “May your friend consider this a dodged bullet. If they are this blatantly disrespectful to applicants, imagine how horrid they must be to people who depend on them for wages. Yuck,” one user commented.
