Independent video game developer AtomicTorch Studio and publisher Daedalic Entertainment have announced April 29 as the official full launch date for colony survival simulator RPG CryoFall. The game will launch on Steam after its Early Access period comes to an end, and is currently priced at $19.99.
In case you missed it, CryoFall is a 2D multiplayer sci-fi colony simulator with survival RPG elements. Gameplay centers on your characters’ survival on a forgotten planet, where you are challenged to build a thriving settlement through exploration, trading, agriculture, and industry. The twist here is that, unlike previous city-building survival simulators, CryoFall starts you out in a relative Stone Age era, and tasks you with progressing your society as far as you can, up to and including a Space Age.
CryoFall‘s tech tree begins with appropriate Stone Age tools and gear, such as stone hatchets and other basic weapons. Progressing through the ages will open up your society’s tech to more advanced items, such as crossbows, all the way up to include battle mechs and plasma rifles in the Space Age. And you can experience your survival through the ages in a PvE sandbox mode for a relaxed playthrough, or in PvP mode, where you can battle the environment as well as other CryoFall players.
Other CryoFall features include:
- Progression through five tech eras: primitive, industrial, modern, futuristic, and sci-fi.
- Crafting and industry, including oil refining & lithium extraction.
- Advanced farming mechanics, including fertilizers and irrigation.
- Civilian and military vehicles.
- A variety of character options and customizations, including bionic and cybernetic implants, skill specializations such as chemistry, medicine, science, and physics, as well as various afflictions and other simulated effects.
- Player-driven economy, complete with a currency, trading, and automated vending machines.
- A hand-crafted game world with such diverse biomes as temperate, desert, tropical, boreal, wasteland, volcanic, and more.
- A faction system for more immersive player interactions.
- Real-time code editing and open source game code modding capabilities.
