Everyone knows that Hollywood is a big fan of comic book movies; from X-Men to Superman vs Batman, yearly comic book movies have become the norm. So it should come as no surprise that Hollywood is now seeking to capitalize on a largely untapped genre: video games. However, because video game film adaptions have mostly been flops (even with big names), both commercially and critically, many fans are skeptical that Hollywood can create a proper film. One movie that might turn video game film adaptions into blockbuster hits is Warcraft.
Warcraft promises to find the human story in a fantasy world where orcs and humans are at war. The adaptation is more closely based on the events that take place in the popular MMO World of Warcraft. In order to help bring fans up to speed with World of Warcraft lore, Legendary Comics is creating a graphic novel prequel, titled Warcraft: Bonds of Brotherhood.
Warcraft: Bonds of Brotherhood is a standalone hardcover volume featuring an original story developed by Blizzard’s Chris Metzen. Writer Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Captain Britain will script Bonds of Brotherhood based on Metzen’s story, while artist Mat Broome (Batman: No Man’s Land) will draw the book.
Bonds of Brotherhood is described as a “thrilling adventure of bravery, bloodshed and brotherhood.” Warcraft: Bonds of Brotherhood is priced at $24.99 and will be released in May 2016, weeks before the movie hits theaters on June 10th.
