Over the past couple of days, Citadelle des Morts has taken fans by storm with its challenging gameplay, sick wonder weapons, and the story that is taking us back to the BO2 times in the next season. Yes, after researching the intel files within the game and some floating around the unfinished Avalon in Black Ops 6, the Season 2 Zombies map has been found. There’s just one thing, it’s inside next year’s Warzone map. In short, it’s probably filled with reused assets. But is this a serious problem?
COD: Zombies News over on X has posted a new video covering what seems to be the next Black Ops 6 Zombies map presumably for Season 2. This is all outside the Multiplayer maps that take place in Avalon, and if you roam around you can check out this Warzone map in BO6 if you want to. It’s not in full detail and graphics, but it’s worth a look.
In this video, we’re seeing what is probably a reskinned map from BO2 called Dig, and ironically it perfectly matches the image we have from the intel files of Citadelle des Morts in Black Ops 6 Zombies. However, some players are not happy with the next Zombies map not being developed from the ground up for this game mode.
Now, I don’t think that reusing assets is an ideal scenario for every single Zombies map we’re going to get, but to see one in a future Warzone map, I’m not confused nor mad at all. In fact, I’m looking at maps like Der Anfang and The Archon, which were exclusively made for Zombies, and then consider Der Riese, which has tons of reused assets including the main characters themselves. I know which one I prefer anyway. (Read: Der Reise is the GOAT.)
The problem with Call of Duty Zombies that’s been solved by Black Ops 6 so far is the story and the addition of fantasy elements that separate the Zombies mode from Campaign and Multiplayer. If there’s a cool story about a castle that has four elemental swords and the same castle is later seen in a Warzone map, I don’t mind that at all. Warzone is all about reusing assets.
So, while it’s always great to have our unique zombies maps like Kino Der Toten, reusing the Battery Multiplayer map from World At War and making Terminus Island out of it is always appreciated. It’s all about the atmosphere, the feel, and most importantly, how the story fits, right?
