Young Justice showrunner Greg Weisman confirmed that the second half of Young Justice season 4 will go on hiatus before finishing. This Young Justice hiatus is set to last until spring 2022. Weisman then went on to say in a press release,
I’m truly excited for the fans to see the season– and evil creator that I am– also glad that the show isn’t all dropping at once. I firmly believe a television show like YJ– is a better experience if you have time to savor and sort and absorb and predict for a week in between episodes.”
He also explained that the first 21 episodes of Young Justice season 4 are, “in the can and ready to air.” The last episodes, however, have all been animated and are currently in post-production. Weisman expects that all of it will be completed by the end of November.
At the same time as talking about season 4, Weisman clarified that Young Justice has not been confirmed for season 5. This all depends on the HBO Max viewership for all four seasons.
The Long Road to Young Justice Season 4
Young Justice season 4 (or Young Justice: Phantoms) surprised everyone by dropping the first two episodes on HBO Max. This was also during the DC FanDome virtual convention. As of now, the season is keeping with a regular schedule until December 30 (episode 13). The other half of the season (episodes 14-26) will then be posted weakly in the spring of the new year.
Young Justice originally premiered on Cartoon Network in 2010, with the first season finishing in 2012. Cartoon Network canceled the show after its second season, Young Justice: Invasion (2012-2013). Years after the cancellation, the DC Universe streaming service saved the series and brought it back for a third season. Now, the show is on HBO Max.
Currently, new episodes of Young Justice: Phantoms air on Thursdays on HBO Max.
