As casting for the anticipated Superman: Legacy continues in earnest, DC already has a few names in line for the next main character Clark Kent, and his love interest, Lois Lane, among other cast. The feature film, which is the first chapter of the DC Studios slate of projects by James Gunn and Peter Safran, would hit the screens in 2025. The excitement surrounding the movie increased further following the release of Guardians 3 on May 5. Amid the demand for Gunn’s next Superman, the DC boss recently revealed that filming would officially commence in January 2024, even hiring a new casting director.
Ahead of shooting, the DC bosses had to make one more important stop, which is figuring out the right man (or woman) for each role. The Hollywood Reporters recently confirmed that the casting for Superman: Legacy already commenced, and a few impressive names are on the cast lineup. Among them are three strong contenders who would most likely play Clark and other major character slots.
Who Plays the Next Superman in James Gunn’s Legacy?
While many actors are in the mix for the coveted role, a few have advanced remarkably well enough to land the role of Clark Kent, aka Superman. One of the major contenders is David Corenswet. The actor most recently stamped his name in the hearts of movie lovers with his role as projectionist Mia Goth in Pearl.
Sources revealed that the actor has made headway in the Superman: Legacy casting progressions, advancing to the screen test stage. Two other unidentified actors are also in line to snag the role pending the outcome of the screen test slated for early June or sometime after Memorial Day.
Aside from the trio who advanced to the screen test stage, other actors also contended for the Superman role. Some of the most notable names include Jacob Elordi, Tom Brittney, and Andrew Richardson.
Who Else Is in the Potential Cast List
Another coveted character in Superman: Legacy is Clark’s love interest, Lois Lane. Several female contenders are gunning for the role, including Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), and Samara Weaving (Scream VI). Sources claim Rachel delivered one of the most outstanding performances at the audition, but James looks to be rooting for a much younger Lois. At this stage, though, a DC insider confirmed they were far from making a decision.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Hoult from Reinfield will likely play the villainous character Luthor. So far, no other actor’s name has popped up for the role, per THR. But as Studio insiders have confirmed, none of the casting list or any decision on Superman: Legacy is yet etched in ice.
