Selena Gomez was body shamed over her weight gain, and nobody knew how badly it affected her until now. Fans witnessed the singer’s brutal honesty in a new series.
On the outside, she has a perfect life, an adorable family, including a sweet bond with her half-sibling, a group of loyal friends, fans, and all the recognition she deserves.
But the most-followed female celebrity on Instagram has proven to be human. Just last week, she talked about leaving the app due to rising tensions.
Gomez shared a clip where she compared herself to Bella Hadid, jokingly agreeing that she is not as petty as the model.
The 30-year-old also referenced her laminated brows and how imperfect they appeared. Hours later, the dethroned Instagram queen Kylie Jenner posted her brows.
Many saw this as a shade at the singer but not the parties involved. Jenner made a post correcting the trolls, which caught Gomez’s attention.
However, after pledging support for each other, Gomez talked about how much the drama was getting to her.
More recently, the “Calm Down” star let fans in on her past struggles in a new episode on Apple TV+ titled “Dear.”
The episode centered on Selena Gomez’s experience with body shaming and its effect on her self-confidence and mental health.

Selena Gomez Body Shamed While the Singer Battled Lupus
Selena Gomez’s body shamed story dates back to 2014 when she found out about her lupus which came as a shock.
Gomez felt healthy and strong, but the doctors maintained that she could have suffered a stroke or died while performing if the disease had gone unchecked.
As expected, treatment for the disease came with a lot of baggage, and the most visible was her unstable weight.
Almost as soon as she began to gain weight, the trolls’ takes started reeling in. Selena Gomez’s body shamed saga left her devastated.
Indoors, Gomez handled the hurt by swimming in her tears. But to fans, she was formidable as, at the time, she maintained the hate did not get to her.
Apart from being unable to deal with the critics, the singer found it unbelievable to come to terms with her illness. She said:
“That was the most surreal part because I never felt fatigue; I was young, I felt completely fine. So hearing from a doctor, ‘You could have had a stroke onstage, you could have died’ — it was a lot.”
Eventually, Gomez accepted her fate and focused on getting better. But despite her inability to handle the vile feedback, she wanted to advocate for body-shaming victims.
Somehow this feeling helped her triumph over the pain. She would often share inspiring notes with fans and slam the naysayers.
In the end, this real-life superhero did not allow her illness to come between her passion. She continued to churn out songs, earning nominations and awards.
