It sounds like Selena Gomez might be getting a prenup. Although the singer and her fiancé, Benny Blanco, couldn’t be more obsessed with each other, Gomez appears to still be taking precautions in case their marriage fails. Nearly a month after the couple got engaged, reports have surfaced that Gomez is drafting a prenuptial agreement to protect her assets.
Selena Gomez’s Prenup Will ‘Protect’ Everything She ‘Built From Scratch’
According to Life & Style, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have so much to discuss before tying the knot. Apart from the usual details like their guest list and wedding venue, the pair will also have to talk about a prenuptial agreement. The legal contract, which aims to protect one’s wealth in case of divorce, is common among celebrities. Considering they often have various business ventures, prenups can not only protect their assets but also prevent long legal battles with their former spouse.
Rumors of Selena Gomez’s prenup plans may cause some fans to speculate she’s hesitant about marrying Blanco. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. A source told Life & Style that the actress “adores” her fiancé and has “zero doubt” they’ll last. “She wouldn’t have said yes to his proposal otherwise,” the insider said.
Despite this, Gomez is still considering getting a prenup to “protect herself.” After all, she has so much at stake, like money from her music and acting career, as well as her Rare Beauty brand. “It’s a business Selena built from scratch and is justifiably proud and protective over,” the source said about her cosmetics company.
How Does Her Fiancé Feel About It?
Thankfully, Selena Gomez’s prenup plans don’t seem to be an issue for Blanco. “He totally gets it and wouldn’t dream of challenging Selena on this issue at all,” the source explained, adding that the record producer won’t be financially depending on his future wife since he’s successful in his own right. “That’s actually one of the things she loves about him most,” they said about Gomez’s feelings toward Blanco.
The rumors about the couple’s prenup come weeks after they announced their engagement. On Wednesday, Dec. 11, Gomez shared the news by posting a close-up of her ring. “Forever begins now,” she captioned the photo. Her post also featured a cute snapshot of the pair celebrating the milestone with hugs and kisses.
Since then, celebrities like Taylor Swift, Cardi B, and Jennifer Aniston have shown support for the couple following their engagement.
