Selena Gomez announced via a post on her Instagram stories, attributing her decision to wanting to focus on “what really matters.” Her announcement came in the wake of tabloid reports alleging she and BFFs Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller gossiped about Kylie Jenner at the Golden Globes.
Selena Gomez Quits Social Media Again
Shortly after the award presentation show, Selena Gomez took to her Instagram stories to share a clip of herself and her boyfriend Benny Blanco playing with two kids. She captioned the post with the announcement of her social media exit, writing,
“I’m off social for a while. I’m focusing on what really matters.”
However, the Only Murders in the Building star soon shared a post on her Instagram story shortly after, promoting her and Gordon Ramsay’s cooking video. Without referencing her previous announcement, Selena captioned the clip,
“@gordongram stepped into my kitchen and showed me how to make an amazing Breakfast Burger.”
Although the announcement of her social media break wasn’t a first for Selena Gomez, her return barely eighteen hours later irked many. Several fans, who admittedly had enough of her on-and-off social media breaks didn’t hold back anymore. They utilized various social media platforms to slam Selena Gomez for not standing by her words, again.
Selena Under Fire for “Attention Seeking” Move
Unable to express their thought via Instagram story, user @SelenaGCharts utilized X to officially announce Selena’s social media return. Ultimately, several others joined the thread, unpacking their pent-up frustration over the crooner’s social media gimmicks. One angry fan tweeted,
“She really is a pathological liar.”
Another wrote,
“She didn’t even make it to 24 hours. I’m crying.”
A third jeered,
“Her thinking sleeping in the night is considered ‘taking a break from social media’ too.”
Some fans described her on-and-off antics on social media as Selena Gomez’s way of seeking attention. Others labeled the star as a social addict, alluding to her seeming inability to stay off no matter how many times she announced a break. One wrote,
