With the rising cost of everyday items, it’s not unusual for someone to put something back because they’re short. People are tightening their belts. However, one self-important Kentucky man thought he was so important, he didn’t have to pay the full bill when he stopped at a gas station. Instead of handing over the $100 bill he had on him, he wanted an IOU. What he doesn’t understand is that this isn’t a trust fall exercise.
TikToker Samdurham2332 Sam recorded the encounter, being the cashier in the video. When an elderly man tried to buy energy drinks, he wanted to pay less for what it rang up to, which was a whole $6. And what makes it worse is that the old man had the money to pay it all along. In fact, he had a $100 bill but didn’t “feel like breaking it.” Then, he handed Sam $5 even though the item cost $6. He asked Sam, “Can I owe you a dollar?”
When Sam told him that he couldn’t allow the man to pay him back another time, he asked him, “What do you mean, I can’t owe you a dollar?” I can’t imagine asking a cashier that question, knowing full well they’re expecting the entire payment. Does he think he’s a king or something? After Sam denied him, he tried to spin a tale he did this same thing before allegedly in August, likely to convince Sam he’s trustworthy. That just sounds shifty.
When Sam says, “That’s not gonna work, man,” it’s clear he thinks this customer is going to back off. However, he tries one more trick by pulling off a lottery ticket of some kind and handing it to Sam.
Sam’s not having it. He tells the old man “no” multiple times and that he still owes him a dollar, but it appears the customer had enough of trying his luck. He turns around and proceeds to walk out the door of the gas station without his drinks.
This weird sense of entitlement is pretty common in the service industry. If a cashier has a chip on their shoulder, it’s likely they just dealt with a rude customer. What was so sacred about breaking a $100 bill anyway? And what about the five he left behind, too? I have so many questions!
