During the League of Legends 10th anniversary Livestream, Riot Games announced a ton of new content! Despite the unveiling of so many new, cross-media endeavors, some additions to the main game are among the most exciting. One of these shocking new developments for League of Legends is Senna, the game’s newest champion.
Seasoned players may recognize her name and stature. This is because our new champion has been a part of the League of Legends lore for years. A while back, Riot released two champions rather close together: Lucian and Thresh. A third character was tied to their story but was not made playable in-game.
The backstory goes as follows: Lucian and Senna, husband and wife, were once “Sentinels of Light.” The two took it upon themselves to hunt and exterminate undead. Due to the nature of their quest, the two found themselves locked in battle with the dark spirit Thresh, the chain warden. During their clash, Senna is killed. Unfortunately for her, she dies at the hands of Thresh himself. Because of this, she is damned to be trapped and tortured eternally within Thresh’s lantern of souls.
For years, this story has served as Lucian’s driving force and motivation. However, Riot has recently decided to advance this bit of lore. In doing so, they have painted a picture of Lucian’s next confrontation with Thresh. In the heat of their battle, Lucian damages Thresh’s lantern and unleashes a flurry of trapped souls. Among them, Senna emerges. Reunited, the husband and wife duo seem empowered.
Don’t you worry; if you’re here for in-game mechanics and not lore, there is plenty of news for you! League‘s newest champion will be a support marksman. By merging damage with team-saving utility, Riot hopes to create a brand-new in-game archetype.
