Serena Williams‘s husband, Alexis Ohanian, is battling Lyme disease. The Reddit co-founder shared the health update in a series of tweets on Tuesday, revealing that the diagnosis shocked him. “Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have Lyme disease. Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat,” the tech executive revealed. Ohanian went further, providing some of the complicated details behind the diagnosis. He noted that the test results showed his good cholesterol was too low while the bad cholesterol was “just ok.”
“Gotta work on that. On the plus-side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone,” he noted.
In another tweet, Serena Williams’s husband revealed he had a family history linked to the illness. However, he was surprised about the diagnosis, as he didn’t frequent areas typically associated with the condition.
“I’ve got a loved one who had it a few years back, showed tons symptoms, etc and just couldn’t figure it out until they tested him for it (treated it successfully, too). I spend so little time in the wilderness/northeast this was quite a surprise,” the 41-year-old said.
Determined to combat the disease, Ohanian revealed he would begin taking antibiotics and not let the diagnosis keep him down. Additionally, Ohanian clarified that he was in no place to give medical advice, asking his followers to talk to a doctor. “Please talk to a doctor! Do not listen to me for any health advice,” he said. Since Alexis Ohanian revealed his Lyme disease diagnosis, he has received an outpouring of love and support from fans. Some expressed happiness that the father of two caught the disease in time. Some followers also wished Ohanian a speedy recovery. Some fans also stressed the importance of getting a whole battery of blood tests from age 25. Meanwhile, Ohanian is one of several big names to have publicly announced their Lyme disease diagnosis.
