Serena Williams’ daughter Olympia has her mother’s words to help her navigate life. Serena Williams’ career as a tennis champion is laudable, but the sports star doesn’t want her daughter to be pressured. Read on to find out what she told her daughter.
Serena Williams’ Daughter Gets Life Lessons From Mom
Although Serena Williams’ daughter Olympia is just 5, Serena is not leaving anything to chance.
In the course of Serena Williams’ career, she has won eight hundred and fifty-eight career singles win. The tennis champ has also won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and four Olympic gold medals.
However, the mom of one doesn’t want her success to be a burden to her daughter. After a successful career, Serena tells E! News the lessons she’d like to pass on to her daughter Olympia.
“I hope she realizes that I was pretty good at my job and the hard work that it takes to be good at it,” she told the news outlet.
“So, that’s what I would hope, just taking away the hard work and the excellence that you have to put your body through and the discipline that you also have to put your body through.”
Serena Williams’ daughter also got a message on the importance of building a solid squad.
“How it’s important to have a really good team around you,” she explained, “and how you can have a good career if you have a good team around you and you can have a different career if you have a bad team around you.
The 41-year-old also emphasized the importance of having quality friends and people to talk to.
Serena Wiliams Is Torn About Leaving Tennis Career
Serena announced her evolution from tennis in August and played her final match weeks later in the U.S. Open. The talented tennis player made it to the third round.
Serena discussed her “evolution” in a Vogue article expressing her regret about leaving the sport she loves. She admitted in the piece that she felt “torn” about stepping away from the sport, noting, “I don’t want it to be over, but at the same time I’m ready for what’s next.”
The athlete explained to E! News that the feeling stemmed from knowing she still has the talent to compete.
However, she needed to step away because she plans to grow her family. The grand slam champion revealed that her daughter has repeatedly asked for a younger sister.
“I for sure feel more at peace now,” she said about the decision. “It’s interesting. I think I feel torn because I’m still able to play at a very, very, very high level. Meanwhile, she disclosed that she always wanted to evolve away from tennis when she could still play “at a very high level.” But it’s hard because it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, I could still play, and I could still do all that stuff.’…But I’m inch by inch leaning away, inch by inch embracing it,” she concluded.
Serena also revealed that she would continue to focus on her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures, and grow her family. Hopefully, Serena Williams’ daughter’s dreams will come true, and she will get a younger sister soon.
