Shannon Sharpe is known for making headlines. He’s not only a world-famous Super Bowl champion, but he’s also the host of a wildly popular podcast called Nightcap. He hosts the show with former Bengals player Chad Ochocinco Johnson and regularly discusses pop culture. The NFL star also has another show called Club Shay Shay. There, he welcomes high-profile guests like Keke Palmer, Katt Williams, and, recently, Kamala Harris.
However, it’s not episodes of his recent productions that have gotten people riled up. It was a clip from his Twitter account.
In the post, Shannon, who has multiple dogs, is seen saying a prayer before eating his Thanksgiving Day meal. One of his furry companions is in his arms. To the side of him is another one of his big, drooling dogs. In front of him are a drink, a ham, and several other staple dishes that most humans eat. But at the end of the clip, Shannon does what some people would consider the cardinal sin. He takes a piece of his meat, slices it up, and tosses it in his dog’s mouth. Fans of his could hear the dog smacking and licking, which had people going wild.
Are Dogs Appropriate for the Table?
It’s no secret that Shannon Sharpe loves his dogs. In November 2023, Chad Johnson slammed his co-host for revealing he spent $10,000 on a puppy.
“Man, you paid $10,000 for a dog? 10,000 American dollars? C’mon, man, I could’ve gotten you a Pom out of the city for $300!” he said.
Considering the price tag for Sharpe’s dog, Teddy, it’s unsurprising that he would have the canine at the dinner table. After all, he is part of the family. But some watchers just weren’t feeling that.
Many netizens replied to the baller’s social media post, calling him out for what they believed to be unsanitary practices.
“This is wild because he be the first one to talk about eating etiquette and cleanliness but got a dog at the table,” someone commented.
“Get that dog off the table, Unc,” another wrote.
“Dog on the same table as the food? You can’t eat at everyone’s house, and I’m going to continue stressing this.”
Shannon Sharpe Doesn’t Care What You Say About His Dogs
Despite the pushback, Shannon Sharpe seemed unphased by the comments about letting his furry friends eat at the dinner table.
On X, Sharpe replied to a few critics who questioned his behavior.
After receiving one too many tweets about the dogs at the table, Sharpe told a hater his pets “sleep in the bed also.”
Someone replied, saying sleeping in the bed was reasonable. “Table? No.”
“What makes you think I’m going to allow you to tell me what I should do at my house?” Sharpe asked them.
Lastly, Shannon clapped back at another person who told him it was “out of pocket” to have the dogs at the table.
“What do you think your chances are of you having a meal at my home?” he asked them. “1 and how many octillion?”
Although many people don’t seem to be a fan of Shannon’s practices, the NFL superstar couldn’t care less. And if you’re familiar with Unc, then you know that’s par for the course.
