It seems surreal to say after such a long wait, but Shenmue III will finally be released in under two months.
The only question remains whether the hotly-anticipated Sega threequel will be worth the wait. But whether it’s a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’, PC backers have already expressed dismay at its Epic Games Store exclusivity.
And although Ys Net was not originally going to, the decision has been made to allow refunds up to two weeks for those unhappy Shenmue III fans.
Firstly, a mid-September email will be sent to backers reminding them of what console they purchased Shenmue III on. The email will also give them a chance to change their desired platform.
During the time span in which the survey is live – 2 weeks – PC backers will have the opportunity for a refund. However, after this period of time, they’ll no longer be able to ask for a refund.
According to the Shenmue III Kickstarter page, reimbursements could take up to 20 business days to 3 months from the time when the claim is made.
They explain that this is due to the campaign being four years long and “the complexity of the transactions and payment service system arrangements”.
However, despite making a claim for a refund, Ys Net claim that “[t]he possibility is high that in-game rewards for backers who requested a refund may not be removed from the game”. This is because the production of the in-game rewards is already underway.
In the same post, the Shenmue III team announced the release of a playable trial version of the game. This taster of the full product will come out during the second half of September and allow players to explore Bailu Village, engaging in various activities and following an objective.
Only time will tell how the full game turns out when it releases on 19 November 2019.
