EDIT: Shenmue III has now raised over $300,000 on Kickstarter. After 20 minutes. Yep, this game is being funded.
Three bombshells in one night. First, Team ICO’s long-awaited and thought-to-be-dead The Last Guardian was officially re-revealed for PS4 and given a 2016 release date. Then, a legitimate remake for beloved JRPG classic Final Fantasy VII was announced, to come to PS4 first.
And now, when we all thought the bombshells had been dropped, Shenmue director Yu Suzuki came on stage to officially announce what had been thought impossible: that Shenmue III is a real thing, and up on Kickstarter looking to be funded and made.
Just to be clear, after one minute of the Kickstarter launching, $17,000 were raised, crashing the Kickstarter website. Yeah, Shenmue III is a popular idea. And now it’s an actual, tangible game that people could get their hands on if enough people contribute. Based on preliminary looks, however, it looks like raising the money won’t be an issue at all.
