I’ve always been told by my mother to never trust a hotel to be as clean as I think it is. Just because there is a janitorial staff on site doesn’t automatically mean that everything is cleaned to your standards. One traveling family in Boca Raton, Florida, was horrified to find what looked to be darkened lumps of old feathers and dirt caked into their duvet when held up to the light. The comments are divided on what the contents of the duvet really are, but everyone can agree that it’s a disgusting find in what is reportedly a four-star Hilton hotel.
The above video was posted to TikTok by @floridates, an account focused on different places to go on dates in Florida. There are a few other videos on the account detailing local parks, restaurants, and even libraries. In this particular video, it appears that two people behind the account are at a Hilton hotel in Boca Raton, Florida. The speaker explains that when she and what is assumed to be her husband arrived, they thought that the duvet on their hotel bed was strange.
So, her husband decided to hold up the duvet to the light, where the two of them saw dark lumps all across it. She specifically says, “We’re at a four-star hotel in Boca Raton, Florida, and we were looking at the covers and when the sunlight specifically hit the covers, look at what we seen.” The actual duvet is stuffed with down feathers, meaning that there are feathers stitched in for added comfort. However, if that is truly the case, then these feathers have been out of commission for a long time, now only serving as lumps of material.

Many commentators were divided on whether the material on the duvet is mold or feathers. Some people claim to have worked as a former housekeeper, explaining that the sheet really is dirty, saying, “Hey yall former housekeeper here, that duvet is FILTHY! Feathers or not you can tell it’s dirty by the border lines where the stitching is and there’s no feathers! Even when the light isn’t on it you can still see small stains! THIS IS DIRTY!“
Other commentators were positive that the substance isn’t dirt, but rather just clumps of feathers, with one person saying, “It’s a feather blanket lol. It’s feathers.” Another top comment in a similar vein says, “I don’t think this gonna go how you want it.” Regardless of what it is, it definitely doesn’t look very clean or comfortable, and I’d hoped they changed out their bedding a little more often.
