Some things, no matter the intent behind them, can come off as absurd and reckless. One such would be a couple who decided to use a helicopter for a gender reveal party during a snowstorm in Atlanta, Georgia.
An onlooker took a video of the surreal sight from a higher floor of another building. The clip was posted on X, with a text overlay that read “I thought this helicopter was stuck in the snowstorm in Atlanta. Turns out it was the cutest gender reveal.”
On one side of the split screen, there was a picture of the couple in each other’s arms, staring into the sky with eager anticipation. They were both clad in jackets, gloves, and other clothing items fit for the weather. “It’s a gender reveal,” the onlooker announced once the helicopter started to release blue fumes, signalling that the baby was a boy. The revelation roused shouts of cheer from the party below, a group of people by the poolside, whom the onlooker turned the camera to.
As expected, once the clip hit the internet, netizens had plenty to say about the stunt the couple played.
“Congrats to the parents, but let’s be honest, using a helicopter for a gender reveal is risky and unnecessary. One mistake and it turns from celebration to tragedy. Safety should always come first,” one wrote, pointing out the possible hazards that could have ensued from it. “It is shocking and reckless that some people go to extreme lengths like flying helicopters during snowstorms just to go to stage gender reveals. These stunts put not only their own lives at risk, but also the safety of others around them,” another added.
“Risking 4 lives to tell Instagram the baby has a penis. Logic left the chat,” one wrote. “Before you can reveal ‘boy or girl’, you need a director, a cameraman, and a sponsor. Welcome to the new world,” another noted. “What are they thinking, doing this in the middle of a snowstorm?” one user asked. “This might be the biggest waste of money I’ve seen in a while,” a netizen noted.
Some users leaned into humor. “Helicopter parenting just went airborne— what’s next, a drone birthday party?” one wrote, playing on words.
“That’s a little excessive. These gender reveal parties are getting out of hand,” a user stated. Someone else said, “This is exactly the red flag.” A last user wrote, “When you have money, your actions speak louder.”
Although gender reveal parties are a great time to get creative, it is essential that caution is always applied.
