At the end of Chapter 1 in Frostpunk 2, you will need to make a major decision that will shape the future of New London. This dilemma is directly connected to the new permanent source of fuel that you’ve just discovered near the Old Dreadnaught. Although Oil is extremely useful, the factions within your city cannot agree on how you should proceed. You now have to decide whether or not you should defeat or embrace the frost in Frostpunk 2.
Let me make it clear, this decision will affect the playthrough of your current save. However, you can be assured that either choice will allow New London to continue to survive. Whether you want to defeat or embrace the frost at the end of Chapter 1 in Frostpunk 2 can be decided by your own preferences.
Defeat the Frost
If you decide to defeat the frost, you will receive new tasks that are focused on transitioning your generator to solely use Oil. This will require you to expand the Oil production near the Old Dreadnought. This decision certainly makes more sense if you want to be consistent with the goal in Chapter 1.
Here are some tasks you will get from this choice:
- Construct Generator: Oil Pumps in the Central District
- Research and construct Generator: Surplus Injectors
- Activate Surplus Injectors and supply enough Oil
- Research “Deep Melting Deposits” and build a Deep Melting Drill
Embrace the Frost
On the other hand, if you decide to embrace the frost at the end of Chapter 1 in Frostpunk 2, you will take a step back. You will unlock a new mechanic where you can build Settlements in the Frostland. It revolves around building a network of Skyways to connect the Frostland Outposts to New London.
Here are some objectives you will need to complete:
- Construct Generator: Adaptive Pumps
- Research “Settlement Heating” and “Skyways”
- Find an outpost in the Frostland to upgrade to the first settlement
- Upgrade a settlement so it can contain 2,000 people
If you want to play around with the settlement mechanic, pick the embrace the frost. On the other hand, defeating the frost choice allows you to focus on New London. If you find managing several settlements difficult, you should pick the first option.
Note that each decision will impact your relationship with the Stalwart and Pilgrim factions. Defeating the frost will make you popular among the Stalwart, while the Pilgrim prefers to embrace the frost. The loss of reputation isn’t that big, and you can eventually recover your relationship if you bribe them with enough.
