Shuffling has taken the world by storm and is even done competitively at conventions. It’s a chance for shufflers to show off their moves, hone their craft, and crush the dancing competition. At the Anime Impulse convention in Orange County, California, one shuffler drew the attention of the entire con at a tournament. All eyes were on Reddit user Astro_Space as they crushed the competition with a two-and-a-half-minute shuffle.
It might look easy, but shuffling takes months to learn and years of practice. Choosing smooth transition and the right moves happens in mere seconds. For some dancers, it takes a year before they can enter a flow state. This means moving without thinking, something Astro_Space has undoubtedly achieved.
While fans and judges are in awe throughout this video, fans who weren’t at the convention were also entranced. “Okay, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen it look like real shuffling,” one user commented on the video. Another said, “Two things. First: That was the most amazing performance I’ve seen. Second: Have you seen Grandma’s Boy? Because that was just incredible.” To this, Astro_Space responded, saying, “First: Thank you. Second: Nope, never seen it.”
When the dance wasn’t being compared to a heated Dance Dance Revolution scene, others praised the shuffler as an inspiration. “Ayy Chespie! Great show! Your 1-year comparison video is what got me into Dancerush.” Others remarked on the quality of the performance, mentioning how awesome it was to watch.
“Okay, that was hella fire,” one user said. “Perhaps the cleanest shuffling I’ve ever seen. Now I wanna play,” remarked another. For some unfamiliar with Dancerush, the video sparked more curiosity about the craft than anything. “How is this possible? But also, there’s a game for shuffling?” One user asked. If nothing else, competitive shuffling is definitely getting its viral time.
