The Silent Hill franchise has been tragically dormant for years but is finally making its return with the new interactive series Silent Hill: Ascension. The horror series will allow viewers to vote on key decisions made by characters in the game that will affect the story and apparently have an impact on the canon of Silent Hill as a whole.
Things have been sadly quiet for Konami’s legendary Silent Hill series since the plug was pulled on Hideo Kojima’s planned P.T. game. It seemed for some time like the ominous adventures in the fog-ridden town might just be over as the players and developers in horror gaming all moved on to other titles. That was until a massive event unveiled multiple new Silent Hill titles arriving in the near future, with the first one, Silent Hill: Ascension, beginning tonight.
Silent Hill: Ascension Begins
Silent Hill: Ascension is an interactive horror series that will premiere tonight and air new additions live every night for apparently about six months. Every new episode that airs on both the series’ website and an app for iOS and Android will prompt players to make a decision that will then impact the next episode that airs 24 hours later.
This isn’t the first time the idea of letting players interact with a horror story has been experimented with in gaming; Supermassive has been doing it for years with the Dark Pictures series alongside games like Until Dawn and The Quarry. Silent Hill: Ascension‘s approach of letting the entire fanbase battle it out on which decision gets the most votes to ultimately influence the story is an interesting twist, though, and could be something seen a lot more in the future if this series does well. It’s the title that kicks off the new era of the franchise that will continue with the Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill f in the near future, so hopefully, this kicks things off the right way.
