After around a decade of development, Skull and Bones has finally been finally graced with a release date announced at The Game Awards 2023. Casting off on February 16, 2024, Skull and Bones will be available in Standard and Premium editions on PlayStation 5, Xbox X|S, and PC via Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store. Whether you’re a fan of Sea of Thieves or AC IV: Black Flag‘s naval combat or simply love the pirate life, this upcoming seafaring adventure might be worth checking out.

With aesthetics and a visual design similar to New World and gameplay like Sea of Thieves, Skull and Bones featured a fairly decent teaser at The Game Awards 2023. The game is an online experience featuring a co-op open world with cross-play and cross-progression across the platforms it’s releasing on. Ubisoft states that Skull and Bones will consistently offer new challenges and features on a seasonal basis, similar to how Sea of Thieves operates its content.

December 15 to 18, Skull and Bones is offering a Closed Beta for those interested, while subscribers of Ubisoft+ can access the game three days early on February 13, 2024. As a PvP-centric game, privileged early access to the experience is quite a disadvantage for non-Ubisoft+ users. Alas, the seas show favor to no one, and those not skilled enough to keep their booty safe will sink to the bottom of the ocean, regardless of how much extra time they’ve spent sailing.

While many might be skeptical of how long Ubisoft plans to support Skull and Bones after such a long development, the publisher has promised to regularly update the game for free with new content, activities, and stories over the next few years.
