Smart Boy emulator case brings classic Nintendo games to Android
The days when you could only play Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles are fading fast. Nintendo’s decision to create games for smartphones came first. And now Hyperkin’s April fools joke has become a reality. That’s right, the ‘Smart Boy case is for real.
Hyperkin, a company that makes gaming tech, such as the retro-gaming RetroN5, explained the situation on their Facebook Page;
“A lot of you were speculating that the Smart Boy is an April Fools’ Joke. Well, it sort of was. We “leaked” it with the initial intent of testing the market, seeing whether or not it should be something we’d actually make, under the guise of an April Fools’ Joke.“
Positive reactions on the internet persuaded Hyperkin to actually start developing the device. After a showing at E3, we now know some more details. The Smart Boy can be preordered from Hyperkin’s website and will retail for $59.99. Gameboy and Gameboy Color games will both be playable on it. However, this one is purely for Android owners. This is due to Hyperkin only working with phones that run Google’s operating system.
Expected shipping date is December 1st.
