The Kombat Kast live streams are events promoted by NetherRealm Studios to advertise and reveal information on Mortal Kombat games. The July 6 Kombat Kast shows off the new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer is called Lin Kuei and features the return of Smoke and Rain. The Lin Kuei are an organization of assassins. It’s the group where Sub-Zero, Smoke, Cyrax, Sektor, and Frost belong to.
The Lin Kuei’s enemies were the Shirai Ryu, Scorpion’s clan. However, in this new era, Scorpion and Sub-Zero are blood brothers and are now working together, as shown in the Lin Kuei trailer. Based on the dialogue footage, Scorpion is a full-blown member of the Lin Kuei.
Scorpion and Sub-Zero meet up with Smoke at a temple. Smoke is another Lin Kuei ninja and a longtime friend of Sub-Zero. As his codename suggests, Smoke can summon and manipulate smoke and mist. The trailer then switches over to the three Lin Kuei Ninjas confronting Rain.
Rain is another ninja but isn’t part of the Earthrealm clans. Instead, Rain is a prince from Edenia and a recurring antagonist. Rain gains a new staff for Mortal Kombat 1, using it to control and summon water.
The Lin Kuei trailer also featured several new Kameo fighters. Kameo fighters are characters that serve as special assists in Mortal Kombat 1.
