Sniper Elite 5 once again puts you in the boot of Karl Fairburne, this time he fights to uncover Project Kraken in 1944 France. To prove your worth as one of the elite snipers, the game features optional challenging sub-missions called Kill Challenges that reward you with additional firearms. Here are all the Kill Challenges and tips on how to beat them in Sniper Elite 5.
Kill Challenge 1
(Updated on August 8, 2024 – updated links and format)
- Mission 1: The Atlantic Wall
- Objective: Kill Steffen Beckendorf with an Explosive
- Reward: MP40
Although he is the first target of the Kill Challenges, Steffen Beckendorf is not an easy man to find because he patrols the town inside his car. If you manage to spot his parking location, you can try planting an Explosive like a Teller Mine nearby or chuck a Grenade at him. Otherwise, you can also try setting up an ambush.
Some players suggest planning out an ambush somewhere northeast of Marcell’s Safehouse, near where you found Marcell, should be one of the most effective locations. If you need to stock up on Explosives, grab some of them from the Armory.
Kill Challenge 2
- Mission 2: Occupied Residence
- Objective: Kill Friedrich Kummler with the Chandelier
- Reward: Kar98k
Friedrich Kummler is located in the Ballroom, the east ground floor wing of the Chateau. Once there, you will have to wait for Kummler to get under the Chandelier. Then shoot the Chandelier’s chain-link using AP Ammo (which should be highlighted in red when you hold your breath) to complete the challenge. That seems to be the most effective way to do Kill Challenge 2 since a number of players reported that the Chandelier crank might be bugged and doesn’t always work. Sometimes, Kummler also might not move from any of his position at all. If that happens, try to whistle or throw a Bottle.
If you’re not the patient type though, you can actually complete this challenge with your guns blazing — kill everyone save for Kummler. After the murder’s done, knock the challenge target out, put him right under the Chandelier, then drop it on him. Hey, if it works, it works!
Kill Challenge 3
- Mission 3: Spy Academy
- Objective: Kill Fabian Richter using a stealth takedown
- Reward: Pistole 08
Ahh, stealth challenges. There is always got to be one of them, right? Fabian Richter and his posse are part of the final mission objective, near the Meeting Room. They always roam the area together, so learning when and where they’re going and the guard patterns are the key to success. Refer to FP Goodgame’s video above to learn their patterns.
If you have completed Splinter Cell, Thief, and Metal Gear Solid games on the highest difficulties, I assume you’ll have no problem with this one. Now, if you’re one of those people that think stealth is always optional, well, just make sure to save often in case everything went south. Practice makes perfect, after all.
Kill Challenge 4
- Mission 4: War Factory
- Objective: Assassinate Matthaus Ehrlich by using a Rat Bomb
- Reward: MP44 (STG44)
Although the objective doesn’t say you have to be stealthy, you do have to sneak around and not alert any guards. Otherwise, Matthaus Ehrlich will come out of his hiding hole and you won’t be able to kill him with the Rat Bomb.
Get the Rat Bomb at the start of the mission then proceed until you get inside the building near Ehrlich. Look for a white rat outline in one of the racks that indicate you can place the Bomb there. After Ehrlich and Dietrich stop talking, he will walk around the room and eventually spot your Bomb. And that’s the end of him.
Kill Challenge 5
- Mission 5: Festung Guernsey
- Objective: Bury Lanzo Baumann in concrete
- Reward: Type 100 SMG
First, locate him from the Objective menu, which will show Lanzo Baumann walking around a construction site. Then to put Baumann six feet under, there are two methods you can try:
- The first one is to sabotage the wooden railing and the concrete machine. You will need to sabotage them in the correct order though since obstructing the machine will trigger him to move.
- The second one is easier: simply knock the lights out of him then throw the body in the cement.
Encase him in concrete and you’ll be rewarded with the Type 100 SMG; which will come in handy to beat the last Kill Challenge of Sniper Elite 5. Don’t forget to read all the details in our Bury Baumann in Concrete guide.
Kill Challenge 6
- Mission 6: Libération
- Objective: Kill Jaan Trautmann with Poison
- Reward: Model D Pistol
Although it sounds tough, Kill Challenge 6 is actually rather easy. All you need to do is to head inside the building where Jaan Trautmann is and find a bottle of Poison on a box next to the stairs. Then go upstairs, pour the Poison into a glass near the door, ring the doorbell, and be ready to ding-dong-ditch him to the afterlife.
Kill Challenge 7
- Mission 7: Secret Weapons
- Objective: Kill Dr. Christian Junger with a V2 Rocket
- Reward: RSC 1918
Kill Challenge 7 sounds very bombastic, don’t you think? Well, unfortunately, that’s not the case. Once you get into the Weapon’s Lab, head to the V2 wind turbine room through the vents and climb the stairs to the scaffolding. Wait until Dr. Christian Junger walks under the rocket then interact with a pad or shoot the chain links on the front and back of the V2 using AP Ammo to drop it. Again, if you seem to be having trouble with the challenge, you can try knocking the doctor out then drop the V2 on him. No earthshaking explosions here, just one gory mess that some poor lab janitor has to clean up.
Kill Challenge 8
- Mission 8: Rubble and Ruin
- Objective: Kill Shinji Yoshikawa with a Japanese weapon
- Reward: Type 14 Nambu
If you’ve beaten Sniper Elite 5‘s Kill Challenge 5, then you can grab Type 100 SMG from the Workbench before the Mission and just spray lead into Shinji Yoshikawa’s face once spotted. Otherwise, you’ll have to look for a Type 14 Pistol next to the SMG Workbench from one of the ruins, north of Yoshikawa’s position but inside the kill target’s area or in the hallway leading to Yoshikawa’s room.
