Did you watch the Super Bowl last night? I know a lot of people out there tried to avoid watching it because of the teams that were playing, but, if you mustered the strength to sit through the game, what did you think of the many reveals it had to offer? For example, we found out that Westworld will be coming back this April, a lot sooner than expected. We discovered that The Cloverfield Paradox, the next film in JJ Abrams’ Cloverfield franchise, would be available to stream as soon as the Super Bowl ended. And, finally, we were given a snippet of video from the first official trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, revealing that the full trailer would be available to watch today. Well… did you see it?
The trailer shows a world of scrappers, rebellious spirits, and dreamers. More importantly, though, it shows off the many faces of Han’s life, and the effect they may have had on him. Woody Harrelson’s character, Tobias Beckett, is the first man to see the potential in Han. He asks him if he wants to join up with his crew and Chewy responds with a resounding roar, which, as Han points out, means yes. I’m especially curious to see how Han and Chewbacca first met, which I’m sure will happen earlier on in the film. In the books, Han is working for the Empire and is ordered skin a wounded Wookie, Chewbacca. He can’t do it, and ends up taking the Wookie under his wing. Will the movie take a different path? Or will the duo already be paired up in the beginning?
I expect this movie to be quite the ride with Emilia Clarke joining the long list of excellent actors having a major part in it. There isn’t much information on her character, Qi’Ra, so I’m wondering what part she’ll play in developing Han Solo into the man he eventually becomes. There’s clearly a love interest there, but I’m curious to see how it unfolds as the movie progresses. Considering I haven’t heard of the character–nor can I find any information on her–will she survive until the end? It’s like Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor, the heroes of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: no one had heard of them until that movie, and they both (spoiler) ended up dying at the end.
Other characters I can’t wait to see are Lando, as portrayed by Donald Glover, and possibly Maz Kanata. I thought I saw a quick shot of her manning a turret, but I could be wrong. Having her in Solo: A Star Wars Story, though, would be an excellent way of developing the relationship between her and Han. In The Force Awakens, you’re introduced to her without knowing a lot about her history, and you don’t really get a lot of information about it by the end of the movie. But if she ends up playing a part in Solo: A Star Wars Story, then we will all get a glimpse into what made her such an important character in Han’s past.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be directed by Ron Howard and will hit theaters on May 25, 2018.
