Sony has just revealed its upcoming State of Play event slated for tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12, and it is expected to have some games that are coming to the PlayStation 5 in the near future.
The State of Play live stream for February will start at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM GMT and, most excitingly, will have a runtime of over 40 minutes, not something we’ve seen from Sony in a while.
The content communications manager for Sony Interactive Entertainment also went on X (formerly Twitter) to share the timing for the event and that it will have some interesting games to show. He added that the show celebrates a “creative and unique selection of exciting games from studios around the world” which has perked up some ears, for sure.
Sony does normally have State of Play events during the start of the year that give more details on the game coming to the console in the second half of the year. This one is expected to have a bit more than just the same old games because Sony doesn’t have many first-party games lined up for the latter half of 2025.
After the absolute banger that was the recent Xbox Developer Direct, Sony will have to pull out all the stops, especially after the extremely slow year for PlayStation 5 owners in 2024. Some of the biggest reveals included more Doom: The Dark Ages details, and the shadow drop of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, along with gameplay of a sequel, Ninja Gaiden 4 by Platinum Games.
We do know some games that Sony is working on, like Wolverine from Insomniac Games, and Ghost of Yotei from Suckerpunch, but PlayStation owners have been high and dry for long enough that Sony needs to reveal some more titles to look forward to in 2025, and even the next year.
