Morbius, the upcoming antihero movie from Sony Pictures, has been postponed by seven months. The Spider-Man spinoff, originally supposed to premiere in March, will arrive in October 2021.

Morbius was slated to premiere on March 19, 2021 release, but unfortunately, fans will now have to wait until October 8, 2021. As strange as it sounds, this actually marks the third time the movie has been hit with a delay. Sony Pictures’s initial premiere date was set for July 31, 2020. The new premiere date sees it hit theatres before Let there be Carnage, which makes a delay to Tom Hardy’s Venom sequel seem ominous.

In the meantime, at least we still have this cool trailer to watch:

This news comes as uncertainty continues in the film and television industry due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In the last week, we learned that Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had paused production.

Morbius is considered a classic comic book character and Spider-Man villain,  created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane and first appeared in 1971’s “Amazing Spider-Man” #101. The movie sees Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, aka The Living Vampire, a scientist who unexpectedly turned himself into a vampire in an attempt to cure himself of a rare blood disease. Helmed by Daniel Espinosa, the movie also stars Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Furthermore, Michael Keaton will reprise his role of Vulture, which he previously played in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Homecoming. The first trailer seemed to heavily imply that Morbius would be a part of the MCU. Additionally, Morbius could be another step towards creating a Sinister Six movie.

Morbius could be the first of many Sony delays.  Sony has a Cinderella movie coming next month, which might get postponed. Venom looks unlikely to premiere in its current slot as well.

Will you be watching Venom when it finally hits theatres? Will it have a connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Let me know in the comments!
