After announcing that Maneater would be one of January 2021’s PlayStation Plus games, it seems like Sony is offering refunds to people who bought the game just before the news broke.
Now, nothing is concrete as of yet, but there have been reports from users that Sony had automatically refunded their purchase of Maneater ahead of the game being available for PlayStation Plus members, and giving them the price of the game (currently around $40 or £35) back in the form of credit for the PlayStation Store. Reddit user u/BraeWhyIt posted his experience on Reddit and said that that he would be able to keep the game in his PS5 library despite the refund, which is a good gesture by the company if the story repeats itself with more people.
It’s not clear what parameters need to be met to qualify for the refund, although it can obviously be assumed that the game would have to be bought very recently from the PlayStation Store. While it should be the same for users in other areas, BraeWhyIt explicitly stated that he was in the US, and while no funds had appeared in his account as of yet, refunds taking a few days to process is par for the course with PlayStation.
Maneater is an RPG (or ShaRkPG if you are so inclined) where you play as a female bull shark taking their revenge on the human world above, with the ultimate goal of finding the fisherman who killed her mother and left her scarred. It’s a pretty silly game in terms of what you can pull off, but it is pretty hilarious to find cool ways to drive off beachgoers from your watery home. It was a pretty fun time, walking the tightrope between crazy comedy and a serious tone, although it did wear out its welcome with some frustrating controls. On the whole, it’s a good addition to a PS Plus lineup that already includes Greedfall and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and as a free game (technically, it isn’t, but oh well), it’s definitely worth a look. Just stick the Jaws theme on, and you’ll be sorted.
