An in-house studio developer for Sony Entertainment, PixelOpus, has made a recent announcement. Apparently, PixelOpus is shutting down today.
PixelOpus is Shutting Down Today
Known for their works Entwined and Concrete Genie, PixelOpus developed great games for the public. However, everything must come to an end, and it is unfortunate that PixelOpus decides to finish its adventure this early. The in-house development studio for Sony recently tweeted:
“Dear friends, our PixelOpus adventure has come to an end. As we look to new futures, we wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to the millions of passionate players who have supported us and our mission to make beautiful, imaginative games with heart. We are so grateful!”
PixelOpus first started its journey by releasing Entwined, a rhythm video game released in 2014. The next title that the team released was Concrete Genie, an action-adventure video game with unique art and story. These two games were enough to bring them to success. The small in-house studio was even nominated for multiple awards, such as Studio of the Year and Best PS4 Game. There is still no information about PlayStation representatives about the recent news, but the fact that PixelOpus is shutting down is definitely a shock for all.
Recently, there were rumors about the small development studio making a new game for Sony Interactive Studios, specifically for the PS5, and some even speculate that it will be the next Spider-Man title.
No one has foreseen that this will be the end for the team, and the odd silence from Sony makes it even more shocking. No one knows what will be the next move of Sony. The 9-year run of PixelOpus was a great journey. The creativity of a small team of great developers will never be forgotten.
