If you have ever thought to yourself, “Gee, I’d really like to get into a fighting game like Street Fighter V, but a man throwing fireballs and a Russian assassin conjuring icicles from thin air just aren’t weird enough characters for me,” then Soulcalibur VI has you covered. A new trailer from released by Bandai Namco this morning has confirmed that lovable oddball Voldo is returning to the series, complete with his spiked BDSM gear and twin katar weapons. Check it out below:
Even though he had yet to be confirmed, there was little doubt that Voldo would be back in Soulcalibur VI. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the series, with his bizarre, snake-like fighting style, creepy fashion sense, and unique katar weapons – weapons he has apparently named Manus and Ayus. In the (absolutely bonkers) Soulcalibur story, Voldo is the guardian of the tomb of an Italian weapon merchant, and he kills anyone who sets foot inside. His fighting style is unpredictable and bizarre – he contorts his body, flips into backbends, and rolls around the arena to keep his opponents off-guard.
With Voldo now confirmed, it brings the roster of playable characters in Soulcalibur VI to fifteen. Of those, thirteen are staples of the series. The returners to the roster are:
- Ivy
- Kilik
- Maxi
- Mitsirugi
- Nightmare
- Siegfried
- Sophitia
- Taki
- Talim
- Voldo
- Xinghua
- Yoshimitsu
- Zasalamel
There are two new characters so far joining the roster. Groh is the only new, original character announced for Soulcalibur VI. He is the series’ first Nordic character, and he wields a double saber. The other new character is Geralt of Rivia, from CD Projekt RED’s Witcher series. Soulcalibur VI is an attempt to return to the classic style of the series, rather than continuing in the direction of Soulcalibur V.
Soulcalibur VI is scheduled to release October 19, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Stay tuned for more details on the game as they become available.
