When Space Marine 2 was launched on the PC and Steam, one of the biggest problems players kept mentioning in their negative reviews was the lack of ultrawide support. It even halted the progress and enjoyment of many budding Primaris(es). Well, the good news is that you can now get back to stomping Tyranids and weeding out Chaos incursions. Space Marine 2 finally has ultrawide support in its most recent update.
This ultrawide support will now allow the game to be rendered in resolutions wider than the typical 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratios. This essentially provides you a wider or larger view of your surroundings which helps a lot in both single-player and multiplayer.
Earlier in the month, Space Marine 2‘s developers released a roadmap of its upcoming updates and features. Ultrawide support was among the first to be implemented, though there was no specific date. Prior to this update, there were a couple of small hotfixes aimed at bugs and issues.
Now that the ultrawide and other quality-of-life updates have been rolled out, you can expect the developers to focus on larger content updates.
Other QoLs Have Yet to Drop
Sadly, it’s not just ultrawide support that was sorely missing in the core Space Marine 2 experience. An FOV Slider and other post-processing toggles weren’t promised. So while you can play on your wider monitor, the field-of-view or perspective might still feel as claustrophobic as ever since your dumptruck of an Astartes is blocking 1/4 to 1/3 of the view.
There’s no clear status yet on the FOV slider. The developers have already stated that it’s not something they’re comfortable with. Their reasoning is that they don’t want to degrade the cinematic quality of the game. Still, they haven’t ruled out the possibility yet. For now, you’ll have to resort to an FOV slider mod if you’re on the PC. For console players, suck it up for the glory of the Immortal God Emprah!
