We’re gonna take you back to the past, to speedrun some s****y games that suck a**. AVGN, the Angry Video Game Nerd, spawned a following so dedicated that the nerd himself was even made the main character of his very own 2D platforming games. True to form, these games are rife with swearing, alcohol, and all sorts of nasty questionable content, right down to some of his best-known one-liners and parodies. The AVGN games are reminiscent of Kaizo Mario stages in the amount of ridiculousness they contain, which just might be part of their allure.

The first video is a TAS (tool-assisted speedrun) of AVGN adventures on YOLO mode, where one life is all you get to beat the whole game.

In the second level, the AVGN falls into the lava for a moment but doesn’t die. This is due to a very small hole between death zones that is difficult but not impossible to land in without TAS. Even with it, the obstacle placement in the game is sadistic enough that getting through even on the lower difficulties requires a fair amount of skill. Of course, being a TAS, the run does not qualify for official recognition.

AVGN Adventures 2 is also run on one of the highest difficulties, but without the use of external tools.

You won’t find this run on speedrun.com. In fact, neither of the AVGN games have entries on the site for the highest two difficulties. It may seem that the player is taking unnecessary time to destroy certain enemies and wait for obstacles, but it helps to clear away the obstacles rather than risk losing a life. In this difficulty, checkpoints are removed, so death will send the player back to the start. Given the strengthened enemies, a one-hour completion time is an impressive achievement.

Now that you’ve ogled these speedruns, leave a comment and tell us your LEAST favorite game of all time, then click this link to see what else we’ve got cooking at The Nerd Stash!
