Spencer Pratt Warns Against Voting for Karen Bass or Nithya Raman in California: ‘Which is the lesser of the two evils?’

That’s quite a take

Spencer Pratt is urging his former supporters in Los Angeles, California, to shift their attention toward the state’s gubernatorial election, arguing that Steve Hilton could help keep the city’s next mayor in check. Rather than supporting either Karen Bass or Nithya Raman, Pratt believes voters frustrated with the mayoral race should focus on electing a governor willing to challenge Los Angeles leadership.

His comments followed a post from Hilton criticizing both mayoral candidates, in which the Republican described another vote for Bass as unacceptable and attacked Raman’s political views. The exchange quickly attracted reactions from people frustrated with the choices available in Los Angeles, including several who questioned whether Pratt could still receive write-in votes.

This is correct. Everyone who voted for me should remember that you actually still can impact the LA Mayor outcome. Not by voting for Bass in some cynical gambit, but by getting Steve Hilton in as governor to keep a lid on how crazy Nithya gets and intervene on her failures. https://t.co/NDRBiHpJSe

In his X post, Pratt told supporters of his mayoral campaign they could still influence the city’s future by backing Hilton for governor. He argued that a Hilton administration could intervene when necessary and limit what he considers the potential failures of Raman’s leadership.

He writes, “This is correct. Everyone who voted for me should remember that you actually still can impact the LA Mayor outcome. Not by voting for Bass in some cynical gambit, but by getting Steve Hilton in as governor to keep a lid on how crazy Nithya gets and intervene on her failures.“

Hilton’s original message was equally critical of both candidates, accusing Bass of failing Los Angeles and describing Raman as a Democratic Socialist of America extremist. Rather than encouraging voters to choose between them, Hilton urged residents to reject both candidates and presented his gubernatorial campaign as an alternative way to influence the city’s future.

The discussion reflects broader frustrations among some California voters over homelessness, government spending, and the direction of local leadership. Several responses referenced the state’s spending on homelessness programs and its long-running high-speed rail project, suggesting that dissatisfaction extends beyond the mayoral election itself.

However, Pratt’s proposed strategy also raises questions about how much influence a California governor could exercise over an independently elected Los Angeles mayor. Although state officials can influence municipal policies through legislation, funding decisions, and other legal mechanisms, a governor cannot simply take control of city government because of political disagreements.

Comments and Reactions to Spencer Pratt’s Warning About the Los Angeles Mayoral Race

Several people expressed frustration with the remaining mayoral candidates, suggesting that neither Bass nor Roman offered an acceptable choice for the city’s future, with one commenter writing, “I can’t write in Pratt…. Which is the lesser of two evils? I do not want DSA, but I feel like both are?“

Others questioned whether Pratt could still receive write-in votes, reflecting the disappointment among supporters who had hoped to see him become mayor. “Can they write your name in?” one person asked, while another encouraged Los Angeles voters to write in Pratt, claiming his leadership would improve the city’s quality of life and public safety.

Meanwhile, some supporters embraced Pratt’s argument that the gubernatorial election could provide another opportunity to challenge Los Angeles’s political direction. As the topic continues to go viral, users are leaving their opinions in the comments section below the post.
