In terms of video game sales, it’s not a stretch to say that October 2023 was an incredibly busy month. With NHL 24, Forza Motorsport, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, UFC 5, and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 all releasing within weeks of each other, last month’s calendar was packed full. However, one game has risen to the top of the sales reports. New reports released by industry experts show that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has climbed to the top of the charts for October, with Super Mario Bros. Wonder just behind.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Becomes Best-Selling Game of October 2023
Released on October 20th, 2023, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 quickly took audiences by storm. As one of the most anticipated games of the year, audiences were extremely hyped up for its release, and the game didn’t disappoint. In the month since its release, the game has received high praise from critics and audiences alike, who praise its creative gameplay and stunning graphics. The fear that Spider-Man 2, a Sony exclusive, would see limited sales has been proven unfounded.
A sales report for October 2023 posted to Twitter by Mat Piscatella shows Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sitting at the top of the list, with Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Assassin’s Creed Mirage taking second and third place. Also on the list are UFC 5 in 7th place, Sonic Superstars in 9th, and Forza Motorsport in 17th. It’s worth noting that despite being platform-exclusive games, the top two games were published by the biggest names in the video gaming industry – Sony and Nintendo, respectively. There’s something to be said for how that kind of clout affects a game’s sales.
However, that’s not to say Spider-Man 2 doesn’t deserve the top spot on the October sales charts. With over five million copies sold less than a month after its release, it’s impossible to deny the game was popular. It’s even been nominated for seven categories at the Video Game Awards, including Game of the Year.
Ultimately, only time will tell if Spider-Man 2 remains in the sales’ top spot heading into the holidays, but it’s hard to see why it wouldn’t.
