The Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition is giving PS5 users a little something extra to be thankful for this year. Developer Infuse Games and publisher Merge Games announced on Thanksgiving Day the game is now officially available with a digital enhancement on the PlayStation 5.
The original Spirit of the North was released on the PS4 almost a year to the day. The Enhanced Edition of the title got an official release date late last month.
“Awaken the slumbering spirit of the north and begin a quiet journey of companionship and discovery. Play as an ordinary fox whose story becomes entwined with The Guardian of the Northern Lights, a magical spirit fox. As you journey over the mountains and under red-stained skies, you’ll discover more about your companion and a land left in ruin.”
Already considered quite beautiful, Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition brings 4K and 60fps visuals to the PS5 version.
Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition Says a Lot Without Saying Anything
One thing that makes this title stand out from the pack is the lack of dialogue. The game is dedicated to forcing players to find their way around without speaking to any characters. However, that doesn’t mean the story feels empty or too quiet.
The game got lots of love on launch for its haunting musical score. Indeed, the lack of talking over that music turns into a big plus.
Once you get into running around the world as a fox who plays the main character, you’ll hardly notice the lack of dialogue. In our review of the Switch version, we said the development team absolutely nailed telling a story without using a single word.
You can download Spirit of the North from the PlayStation 5 store right now for $24.99. Or, you can wait until December 4 when Fuse’s masterpiece project gets a physical release to pick it up.
