Nintendo just can’t seem to put Splatoon 2’s Splatfest to rest, despite announcing twice in the past that the recurring event was finished and would not return. As a big fan of the festival, I have to say that I can completely forgive the company for these particular lies. This time, the next Splatfest will be themed around the classic conundrum of “What came first: the chicken or the egg?”, with participants given a choice of Team Chicken or Team Egg. The event will take place over 48 hours, starting on Friday, August 21, 2020, at 11 PM UK time.

We’re taking another crack at the classic conundrum of which came first: the chicken or the egg? 🐔 🥚

The good news doesn’t end there, either, as the Nintendo UK VS Twitter account has also confirmed that two more Splatfests are on the way before the end of March 2021. Three Splatfests over eight months may not sound like much, but considering the event was assumed to be retired (at least until a potential Splatoon 3 releases), three is better than zero!

Today, Nintendo is also celebrating Splatoon 2’s third anniversary by sharing some new, official artwork, depicting various Inklings and thanking players for their continued support.

Happy splat-iversary Inklings and Octolings! It’s the 3-year anniversary of #Splatoon2, and the team has shared this fun new art!

Will these new Splatfests be enough to entice you back into the game? Are you Team Chicken or Team Egg?

The last Splatfest was held back in May 2020, which saw a repeat of the very first Splatoon 2 Splatfest, “Mayo vs. Ketchup,” which first debuted in 2017. Nintendo previously described the return of this Splatfest as a “one-off.”. Before that, almost a whole year prior, the now-ironically named “Final Splatfest” was held back in July 2019.

In other Nintendo Switch news, yesterday’s Nintendo Direct Mini presentation revealed the upcoming Cadence of Hyrule DLC (as well as a season pass and a physical edition of the game), Shin Megami Tensei V, an HD remaster of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, and more. The hard-as-nails action-platformer Blasphemous: The Stir of Dawn will also be making its way to Nintendo Switch on August 4, 2020.
