Hot on the heels of the newest Tomb Raider trailer, Square Enix has announced that they will be revealing a “secret title” at an IGN hosted party during E3 this year.
Back in April, Square had announced they will be holding a press conference at E3 in order to showcase their current schedule of games and what they have in store for the future. So far, we are aware of the aforementioned Tomb Raider. We also know of Just Cause 3, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and the smallest, most miniscule possibility of some Kingdom Hearts III news.
So what could Square Enix be about to reveal? Their recent financial report hints at new projects and focus. If it’s a new IP, what could it be? A new RPG is always welcome, but maybe they’ll try going in a different direction. Have they done biblical puzzle games yet? Chances are just as good that the “secret” is a game based off of an existing IP.
The background of the invitation pictured above is very reminiscent of the Hitman franchise. With the success of the latest installment, Absolution, and the new movie stalking around the corner (August 21, 2015), it isn’t too far a stretch to think a new game could be on the horizon.
That could just be a generic background, though. Even less likely than Kingdom Hearts III news, would be news about a sequel to The World Ends With You. Remember the coolest game ever on the Nintendo DS?
Fans have been begging (yes, begging) for a sequel to this hit game since it was released (July 2007). We did get a HD remake for smartphones not too long ago. TWEWY: Solo Remix saw some success and left the player hanging with a newly added alternate ending. Not to mention the main character, Neku, getting some face time in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance as a denizen of Traverse Town. So maybe they’re discreetly building up to a new game? A pipe dream at best, but a dream nonetheless.
This is all speculation, of course. Some of it incredibly wild and unsubstantiated, like everything that isn’t The World Ends With You. Let us know what you think what else Square Enix will be showing off in the comments below.
