Star Citizen is a space simulator game that is infamous for including some of the most egregious prices on in-game items in gaming, with the Legatus 2953 pack setting the bar even higher at $48,000. Players who purchase in-game items often spend thousands of dollars to deck out their ships. While many have criticized how insane this can be, 2024 shows no signs that developer Cloud Imperium Games is slowing down on attaching hefty prices to their game. The newest offering for Star Citizen players has jaws hitting the floor with how expensive it is.
In a new post on the official Star Citizen website, players have an opportunity to purchase the Legatus 2953 pack in the first quarter of 2024. The pack comes with over 175 vessels from every in-game manufacturer, including every model of a ship released through 2953 for that hefty price tag.
For most players, that is an insane amount of money to spend on any sort of in-game item. But even those who have the extra money to spend on this Star Citizen pack will have to meet a certain requirement beforehand. Having the option to buy the Legatus pack requires players to have already spent at least $10,000 beforehand on in-game items.
The official website describes how impactful the in-game pack is for players, and not just for their wallets. “Ahead of all others, this definitive armada is an equal match to the noble title of Legatus Navium. Comprised of over 175 vessels from every manufacturer of note, this perfect collection, including all ships released and concepted through 2953, empowers every fleet commander to forge a lasting legacy, leading humanity towards a brighter future.”
Over the years, Star Citizen has managed to release various in-game ships and other items to players at high price points. Some packs have sold for around $30 to $50 for specific ship models and more, while other packs have gone as high as thousands of dollars. The Legatus Pack is by far one of the most expensive packs ever proposed.
The game has been viewed as very controversial and at times labeled a scam by those on the outside. However, those who play Star Citizen appear to be spending a lot of money on different aspects of the game. We’ll have to wait and see who is bold enough to drop some serious money on the Legatus Pack, and if it was all worth it.
