Patrick Stewart fans rejoice, for Star Trek’s Jean-Luc Picard is returning to the small screen! An announced project back in summer that none saw coming but never knew we needed, in which details were extremely scarce. According to CBS Corporations newly appointed chief creative officer David Nevins, the untitled series will premiere at the end of 2019 on CBS All Access. More details have just been revealed!
“In 2019, it’s not one ‘Star Trek,’ it’s two ‘Star Treks.’ ‘Discovery’ at the beginning of the year, and Picard will start at the end of the year.”
The co-creator and executive producer of Star Trek: Discovery, Alex Kurtzman, will oversee all development of the show’s life cycle, which will further showcase the glorious life of our dear captain. Stewart teased us all with a small secret he probably wasn’t supposed to share!
“He may not be a captain anymore. He may not be the Jean-Luc that you recognize and know so well. It may be a very different individual. Someone who has been changed by his experiences. 20 years will have passed…We have no scripts as yet, we’re just talking, talking, talking storylines. It will be, I promise you, I guarantee it, something very, very different, but it will come to you with the same passion and determination and love of the material and love of our followers and our fans exactly as we had it before.”
I’m personally ready for more Star Trek in my life, and I’m ready to see what the new series has to offer to the beloved franchise. Stewart has been pushing the writing team to do something different for a long time on the depth of his character, which is something Patrick has always been known for. As of writing this, none of the original castmates of the series have been asked to return. Who knows, the stars are limitless you know.
