Michelle Yeoh is returning to the Star Trek franchise for the spin-off film Star Trek: Section 31. She is reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou. The star played Emperor in the first three seasons of Star Trek: Discovery. The Star Trek spin-off film will continue with her character’s story after leaving Discovery. Craig Sweeny is writing the script and Olatunde Osunsanmi is directing it. Emperor joins a secret division of Starfleet that’s supposed to protect “the United Federation of Planets and faces the sins of her past”. Yeoh has expressed her excitement about returning to the Star Trek franchise with Star Trek: Section 31. Michelle wanted a spin-off for Emperor since Star Trek: Discovery premiered in 2017. Yeoh is the first woman captain in a Star Trek series. Considering Star Trek first premiered in 1966, with multiple films and series, it took a while to get to this point.
Michelle Yeoh is Finally Getting the Recognition and the Lead Roles She Deserves
Her Everything Everywhere All At Once character was originally made with Jackie Chan in mind. The actor has proved time and time again that she is no second choice. She has appeared in the James Bond franchise and has a lead role in the Star Trek franchise. Emperor Philippa Georgiou is a strong-wielding captain in Star Trek: Discovery. The spin-off film Star Trek: Section 31 has Michelle Yeoh as Emperor in center stage. Despite Star Trek: Discovery coming to an end, doesn’t mean that the story ends there. This Star Trek spin-off film answers the question of what happens with Emperor Philippa Georgiou after her departure. Her character was too good to just leave fans hanging. Paramount+ sees that Yeoh is worth investing in as their lead, and hopefully, more films will follow suit. She has had a long career but is now getting the roles she deserves.
