Two months after receiving its first teaser trailer, Star Wars: Ahsoka has finally received an official streaming date of August 23, this year, exclusively on Disney+. LucasFilm confirmed this information with a short trailer, a segment of the original teaser trailer. Star Wars: Ahsoka brings the animated series to live action with Ahsoka finally taking the forefront after her return in The Mandalorian Season 2. Joining her will be a strong team featuring the return of several Jedis from other media, who are now all grown. That said, let’s take an in-depth look at the Star Wars: Ahsoka Begin trailer.
An Analysis of Star Wars: Ahsoka Begin Trailer
“Something’s coming, something dark.” These are the opening words by Ahsoka in the main trailer as she treads through some old ruins. As a result, she cuts her way inside using the lightsabers. This maneuver is reminiscent of the time when she first did this in Clone Wars. In the prequel series, Ahsoka made the same movements in its final episode to aid Rex and in her escape attempts.
The Old Ruins
The ruins through which Ahsoka treads look like abandoned old temple ruins. Looking back into Star Wars: Rebels, the ruins, at first glance, look like a Jedi temple. At the same time, they show different symbols and clues that lead to the question of whether the ruins really are from a Jedi temple. In fact, with multiple observations, it seems possible that this is one of the unknown temples in the Star Wars universe. One exciting detail to note is that Ahsoka’s walk up to the ruins has a resemblance to when she left the Jedi Order for good in Clone Wars.
Sabine Wren Joins Ahsoka
Sabine Wren, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, comes in with a first peek of her staring into her Mandalorian helmet. When she puts the helmet on, Sabine will join Ahsoka as one of her main allies. They will likely search for Ezra, whose fate was left unknown after his battle with Thrawn at the end of Star Wars: Rebels. And to spice it up, LucasFilm portrays a Loth wolf cat laying on top of a table in her house. As we might know from the Rebels series, these cats descend from Ezra’s home. So, Sabine might have been anticipating jumping into the search for Ezra for some good time.
Other Rebels Characters Will Be in Star Wars: Ahsoka as per the Trailer
In the upcoming series, Ahsoka Tano will be joined by Rebels characters other than the aforementioned Sabine Wren.
Adding to the duo is Hera Syndulla from the Ghost crew, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Captain Hera will be accompanied by her trusted companion bot, Chopper. The trailer doesn’t reveal much about her role in the series apart from her zealous expertise. In the trailer, Hera and Chopper are clearly running away from an attack, which further illustrates Hera’s skills.
The trailer doesn’t further reveal the return of the other Ghost crew. However, there’s a likelihood that we may see their cameos since Ahsoka seems to be based on the aftermath of the Star Wars: Rebels series. We do know that Ezra Bridger will be coming back as per Sabine’s view of a hologram showing Ezra after his disappearance with Thrawn into the unknown.
Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati Will Be Ahsoka’s Villains
Progressing from the display of the loth cat, the trailer showcases the Lothal location, which is the central hub for Star Wars: Rebels. Baylan Skoll, played by the late Ray Stevenson, and Shin Hati played by Ivanna Sakhno, feature in the series as Dark Force villains. The two, Skull and Hati seem to describe the wolves that chased the sun and moon, depicting the loth wolves in Lothal, aligning with Mortis’s son and daughter from Clone Wars. The trailer doesn’t clearly show the two fighting alongside, but we know they are back for power. The two wield orange lightsabers, somewhat indicating their ties but also probably portraying their roles as followers of the Dark Side.
The New Republic Panel in the Star Wars: Ahsoka Trailer
Mon Mothma is another rebel joining Ahsoka, as played by Genevieve O’Reilly. She will join in the action as the lead member of the New Republic Panel. Until now, we are not certain whether the Republic acknowledges or is working with the rebels team actively or not.
In Hera’s scene saying, “We have to prepare for the worst,” she seems to be addressing the Republic. If so, then this would mean that the Rebels would be working alone. At the same time, this would also suggest that the Republic is having a tough time believing the possibility of imminent danger ahead. In such a case, Ahsoka and her allies could be facing a series of attacks from the New Republic, who may deem the heroes a threat. At the same time, we already know the crew will have to face the Dark Jedis as well as the main villain, Thrawn.
Another Villain: Morgan Elsbeth
Morgan Elsbeth, played by Diana Lee Inosanto, comes back as an ally of Thrawn. In the past, Morgan and Ahsoka left each other with a bitter taste in their mouths. At the time, Morgan was working for the Imperial Navy. Now she is coming back to catch up with Thrawn, knowing that Ahsoka is on his tail. It is also highly likely that Morgan Elsbeth will work very closely as Thrawn’s informer, accompanied by a character played by Wes Chatham, as recently revealed.
Grand Admiral Thrawn
Thrawn is back to reclaim his throne as the main villain in Star Wars: Ahsoka. After his disappearance in the Rebels season finale, he has found his way back. With him planning to be the heir to the Empire, as Ahsoka puts it, it’s evident that she and her team are in for another vicious encounter with Thrawn. Actor Lars Mikkelsen will play the role of Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars: Ahsoka.
More characters from Star Wars will presumably premiere in the Ahsoka series, given its likely to have been cast in a time connecting several prequel series. In two months, on August 23, 2023, the spectacular story will unfold.
