Ever since Disney purchased Star Wars, the franchise has grown into something larger than even die-hard fans have could have imagined. In 2015, a reboot of the beloved Star Wars: Battlefront was released, but felt lackluster to fans. This year, EA promises the sequel to deliver where the previous one couldn’t.
EA’s Chief Financial Officer, Blake Jorgensen spoke at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference recently and mentioned the new Battlefront game. He said the new game will be “dramatically” larger than the previous Battlefront, with a ton of new features and even a campaign. The campaign, specifically, was something that had to be cut from the 2015 game.
He didn’t go into detail has to what the campaign, or the rest of the new Battlefront but there have been rumors from other sources that it will involve different periods throughout the Star Wars saga. Meaning, one level could take place during the time of this new trilogy of movies, another could take place in the Old Republic and so forth. This sounds very similar to how Battlefield 1s campaign is, with War Stories. Or more generally speaking, each level stars a new protagonist in a different area of the war. With the new Battlefront, it could be a similar style. Since the idea of having a campaign in different eras, one can expect a slew of new weapons and gadgets that range from all walks of Star Wars.
The 2015 game also didn’t include any characters from The Force Awakens, the newest Star Wars movie which came out around the same time. However, there was an expansion for the stand alone edition, Rogue One. It’s a safe bet to assume this year’s Battlefront will have characters from The Force Awakens and this year’s new movie, The Last Jedi. More will be revealed at E3 this year.
