A director has been selected for the new live-action Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Scottish actor Ewan McGregor. The series will be exclusive on Disney+ and will take place eight years after the events in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. According to THR, Deborah Chow has been chosen as the Director, and she already has an impressive resume behind her.

Chow has already been exposed to Star Wars before by directing a few episodes of The Mandalorian, which will also be on Disney+. She’s also a director for acclaimed shows Better Call Saul, American Gods, and Mr. Robot. She directed episodes in Lost in Space, Jessica Jones, and Fear the Walking Dead, as well. She was nominated for Outstanding Directional Achievement for the Directors Guild of Canada on her work in American Gods. She also won Best Canadian Feature Film from the Toronto International Film Festival for The High Cost of Living in 2010.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy stated:

“We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga. Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I’m absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story.”

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will be written by Hossein Amini from The Alienist and Drive. Chow, Amini, and McGregor will all serve as Executive Producers along with Kathleen Kennedy, Tracey Seaward, and John Swartz. It will be co-produced by Jason McGatlin, Lucasfilm’s Executive Vice President of Production.

Fans have asked for more Obi-Wan Kenobi ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm and began producing more movies and television series. Ewan McGregor portrayed the Jedi in the Star Wars prequels, following the legacy of his uncle, Denis Lawson, who played Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars trilogy.
